James Blakeley, III ASID has been an integral part of the Los Angeles and Santa Barbara design communities for more than 25 years. By demonstrating his unique talent in published and award-winning projects he has satisfied discerning clients from the entertainment, investment and real estate industries. Focusing on original and ever-lasting living environments, James works directly and continuously with builders and architects to ensure an entire project meets and exceeds his clients’ visions. Strong partnerships with artisans, craftsmen, and carpenters complete his team for a comprehensive execution of design/build projects.
For decades his firm Blakeley-Bazeley, Ltd. Has created these distinguished interior environments by emphasizing California contemporary, classic European, and Asian design concepts. As the firm’s principal designer, James explains, “Living environments need to nurture, inspire and grow with their occupants. Creating a home, complete and individual, requires a single vision that can be felt and sensed from any room, during any occasion and time. A superb use of space is to design a ‘box within a box’. Thus, one particular area in a room must stand alone in its integrity, but when all of the elements combine into a seamless design then the space can be viewed as a whole. The resulting compilation of spaces evolve together, ever reflecting a client’s personality.”
James is a long-standing member of the American society of Interior Designers , serving as both a local chapter president as well as on the national board of directors. For the past six years, he has served on the Santa Barbara Architectural Review Board, where he oversaw continuing neighborhood zoning programs and many large architectural projects to maintain the cultural heritage and distinct character of the Santa Barbara community. James has also been elected to serve on the Beverly Hills Architectural Review Board.
